Product Information:

Tired of using a tool rest that's too short, too soft and designed by an engineer that has no idea what it's like to even use a lathe? If you'd like to spend more time turning instead of tuning, the Woodcraft lathe tool rest system is for you. Woodcraft tool rests are modular in design to save you money (buy two rests and one post) and permit you to use your rests on more than one lathe. Select the proper diameter post for your lathe and a tool rest in a length or shape to meet your needs. Note: tool rest lengths include threads. Posts screw into rests and can easily be removed and attached to a different accessory.

  • 1" diameter
  • 3-1/2" long
  • May be fitted with various tool rests
  • Part of the Woodcraft tool rest modular system
  • Steel construction

Comments about Post, 1" Diameter, 3.5" Long :

Based on previous reviews, I was almost afraid to buy it, but needed a larger post for my new lather. Maybe there was a previous quality control problem, but mine is a couple of thousands under one inch and it works great.

Comments about Post, 1" Diameter, 3.5" Long :

Ordered this for a harbor freight 34706 lathe, which has a 25mm post dia. With the previous comments about the posts being undersized, I expected it to fit w/o modification. Turns out the posts are an inch! ~ 1.002 according to my calipers - I figure the paint is 0.002". Light reaming of the hole had the post fitting very well. So you can by the right height, the threads on the posts are 5/8" of the length. I don't have any issue with the rest coming loose, but I don't turn way out of balance stock.

Use some locktight or maybe a lock washer to keep the rest from loosening on the post.

Comments about Post, 1" Diameter, 3.5" Long :

It would be better if the post's diameter were increased just a bit. It fits too loose, so it's hard to get a good solid anchoring platform for your tools.

Comments about Post, 1" Diameter, 3.5" Long :

The diameter of this post is approximately 0.035 inches too small which means it doesn't sit properly in the 1" mount of the banjo. As others have mentioned this makes the tool rest wobble if it's not really tightened down. I'm having a post custom made so I can still use the tool rest I bought.

Comments about Post, 1" Diameter, 3.5" Long :

The post is under sized and does not fit well causing the tool rest to wobble when you move your tool from side to side. When turning wood the tool rest should be DEAD STABLE!!!

Well made, but seems a little loose in the 1" banjo. It's just a hair smaller than the 1" spec.
