Product Information:

Poplar, Tulip Poplar, Yellow Poplar (Liriodendrum tulipefera) is a medium density hardwood that typically has a straight, uniform grain, with a medium texture. Color varies from a white to cream with an olive cast. Darker streaks of olive brown, olive green, and yellowish brown may be present. Very easy to work, one of Poplar’s only downsides is its softness. Due to its low density, Poplar can sometimes leave fuzzy surfaces and edges: especially during shaping or sanding. Sanding to finer grits of sandpaper may be necessary to obtain a smooth surface. This stock is cut to size from quality, kiln-dried stock. 100 percent clear and sanded on both sides. Dimensions are +/- 1/8". Grain runs with the longest dimension. Canada and USA.

  • One of the most common utility hardwoods in the United States
  • A favorite for sculpture, wood carving and turning
  • Often used for small items such as jewelry boxes, musical instruments and patternmaking

  • Due to the nature of wood movement, shrinkage and expansion are possible. Please measure each piece carefully before starting any project.

Wood is a product of nature, and as such, no two pieces are alike to start with, while the same wood growing in different locales can vary greatly even though it is the exact same species.

Thin Stock. The thin stock is cut to size from quality, kiln-dried stock. Dimensions are +/- 1/8" of size listed.

Carving and Turning Blocks. Blocks are sawn to +/- ¼" of size listed.

Plywood. Sizes are nominal. Dimensions are +/- 1/8" of size listed.

  • SPOTLIGHT ON YELLOW POPLAR - Yellow poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera, or tulip tree), the tallest hardwood tree in North America, also rates as the most valuable commercial species because its intolerance to shade stifles lower branches and produces a perfect, straight trunk with clear lumber even in small trees.

    Comments about Poplar 3/4" x 6" x 36" :

Being used for various chipcarving projects (plaques, trivets, etc.) Board had knots & rough, uneven sections at one end. Luckily the waste was not too signigicant. Would use again due to low cost

    Comments about Poplar 3/4" x 6" x 36" :

I bought this particular poplar to make a potatoe and onion storage bin for my kitchen. It works great with any machine or power tool that you use. I have also made picture frames with this poplar that turned out near perfect. This is top quality hardwood poplar that you can use for virtually anything. I love working with it, plus it is very affordable.
