Product Information:

Bubinga (Guibourtia spp.), an African species also known as African rosewood, is a beautiful dense hardwood with a rose-colored background and darker purple striping. Turns and machines well with sharp tools. Due to bubinga’s high density and natural oils, it takes a high polish. Common uses for bubinga include veneer, inlays, fine furniture, cabinetry, turnings, and other specialty items. Since bubinga trees can grow so large, natural-edge slabs of the wood have also been used in tabletops and other specialized projects. Larger blocks are sawn to +/- 1/4" of size listed, smaller blocks +/- 1/8". Spindle stock (1-1/2" - 2") dimensions are +/- 1/8". Grain runs with the longest dimension.

  • Due to the nature of wood movement, shrinkage and expansion are possible. Please measure each piece carefully before starting any project.

Wood is a product of nature, and as such, no two pieces are alike to start with, while the same wood growing in different locales can vary greatly even though it is the exact same species.

Thin Stock. The thin stock is cut to size from quality, kiln-dried stock. Dimensions are +/- 1/8" of size listed.

Carving and Turning Blocks. Blocks are sawn to +/- ¼" of size listed.

Plywood. Sizes are nominal. Dimensions are +/- 1/8" of size listed.

    Comments about Bubinga 2" x 2" x 24" :

I make custom nightsticks (Espantoons) for police and secuirty officers. Bubinga wood is one of the most commonly used wood. It's durable, easy to turn, and makes an excellent stick to carry on duty.

    Comments about Bubinga 2" x 2" x 24" :

The piece I received was shipped at 17% humidity. I had to dry it to 7% using an 80 Deg. oven for two weeks before slicing it to 3/32" strips. If cut as received the products tends to cup makeing it usless for my purpose. I get the best finish using to coats of wax free grain seal and three coats of Poly varnish. It loods three miles deep when I finish.
