Comments about Full Mortise Small Box Lock :

It is a full mortise, so if that scares you, be warned. That said, a good drill index, drill press, and a sharp chisel for clean up will get this puppy installed in a matter of minutes. I like to set the escutcheon into the boxes (3/8" forstner handles this perfectly). This keeps the outside of the boxes super smooth, sleek, and somewhat "stealthy". I also use a good hinge routing jig to set in the strike plate and lock plate. Cut the top or bottom of the box double-plate thick and you only have to cut the one time. The lock will sit proud (or the strike plate), but no matter, just account for that when you drill the key hole. I have installed this lock on over 75 different boxes, and it has never failed. It makes me look like an All-Star. Occasionally I will get a set without screws (maybe two sets of the last 80 purchased), and while that is frustrating, it is a customer service problem, not a hardware or lock problem.

The only issue with this lock is that it is slightly wider than 5/16", so you will have to hand fit after routing.

This item is great and I will be using them for a long time. I've altered my way of installing them and built a jig that makes it so easy now. I did receive one that had a warped catch plate. [...]

I really enjoy this lock. The only drawback was installing it...took longer that I anticipated. That's going to change when I build the jig designed specifically for that.

Comments about Full Mortise Small Box Lock :

[...] I spent half a day and several stops trying to find #4 x 1/2" screws in a "decorative" finish. I could find brass and zinc finish but that small of size is difficult to find in decorative. I have never purchased a lock set before that didn't include the hardware necessary to install it.
