Side Rail Hinge, Polished Brass 1-1/2" x 5/16", Pair
What reviewers #1 & #2 failed to see was that item 5 clearly states the mortise must be undercut to allow for the stop mechanisn, the bump that hindered opening in both their experiences. A 1/8" chisel would make a sufficient clearnce notch, allowing the hinge to be placed flush with the back of the box - no overhang,. Reviewer #6 made a comment that I took into acount when purchasing at the local store. I had them open two packages in order to get two hinges that opened to the same angle, one from each package. The ones left behind opened either too far or not far enough. Poor quality control.
High Quality and Easy to Install
Wake Forest, NC
These are really nice looking and high quality hinges. I used these hinges on a cherry jewelry box. Installation was pretty easy; however, I didn't use the instructions provided. I clamped the lid of my jewelry box in the open position to the jewelry box. I placed a hinge where I wanted to install it and traced around it with a pencil understanding that the back of the hinge hangs out the back of the jewelry box a little bit. I used gouges/chisels and carefully carved the mortises out of the jewelry box and lid. Then I placed the hinge in each mortise and marked the point to drill each screw hole. I used a 1/16 drill bit. I put a dab of vaseline on each drill hole before setting the hinge in the mortise and screwing it in; If you don't, you will strip out the screws.

Error in Instructions
Nana's Toy Box
Suisun City, CA
The directions call for a 1-9/16" mortise. By doing that, the box will not open. The depth of the mortise should have been 1-7/16". You can see in the picture on the website that the hinge pin is centered over the back edge of the project. What you don't see is that 1/8" of the hinge extends outward from the closed box. The entire hinge is 1-9/16" long thus the mortise is too deep.

Hinge in place with the 1-9/16" mortise
How it should have fit with a 1-7/16" mortise.
The quality is not up to the price
Los Gatos, CA
Although it is priced like Brusso the quality is very far from it. The back and side edges are rough, moreover the back sides of the hinges are not aligned to each other when closed and opening force is different in the pair I've received.

I've built 31 keepsake boxes for graduates of US Naval, Military and Coast Guard Academies out of solid cherry and these hinges. I wanted high quality solid brass hinges to really make the boxes heirloom's for the young officers. I attempted the quadrant hinge and found it not the quality I wanted, and difficult to install to boot. These brass hinges are just what I wanted for a high end gift. The new officers and their parents have been thrilled with the quality.
I experienced no difference in the opening angle in any of the 31 pairs.
Only caution is that the instructions are skimpy. If you cut the groove to the length dimension shown, you need to champher the back edges of the lid and body back side so the lid can open in line with the hinge pin. Also need to route a slightly deeper clearance for the hinge pivoting back edge.
I will be making a minimum of 6 more boxes that I can count in my head, for young men and women upcoming new US military officers. I will be ordering these hinges for their boxes.

First 20 boxes for Academy graduates
I've used this hinge many times
Expensive, but if you are making a high quality music box, jewelry box, etc. well worth it.
Disappointed in Quality
Although the finish is nice, the manufacturing quality is poor, . The hinges are 95 degree stop hinges. I bought a pair and they did not stop equally. There was about 5 degrees difference in the two, poor quality control. I choose to file one to correct the problem instead of the pain of returning for replacement.
