Product Information:

This 2-5/8"" bit is part of a line of imported Forstner bits that Woodcraft has tested and found to cut clean and not burn even when testers intentionally subjected them to quick, repetitive drill press borings. This bit has a saw-toothed edge to keep the larger cutting edge cool while boring. An exceptional value for the hobbyist or occasional user. 1/2" shank

Comments about 2-5/8" Forstner Bit :

This is basically pretty well machined, but came unusable due to lack of care in finishing the sharpening. The radial cutting edges (from the center to the periphery) had a gross burr and the peripheral edges had a slight burr. I tried it for grins, and it would not cut cleanly. Once touched up, the bit cuts well enough. It cuts slower and gets hotter than my high-end bits, especially when drilling deep and expecting comparable feed rates in really hard wood, but it is OK for limited use. If you don't have the comparison in hand, you will probably be happy with this - Forstner bits are cool! I got it to use in a particular situation where I don't need flawless surfaces and I want to protect the very expensive bit for which I am substituting this one, and I am happy using it as such. Three stars if it came properly sharpened, which how we expect drill bits to be. Hard to answer the "would you recommend" question. If you are able to finish sharpening it if need be, and you can be happy with OK vs super performance, this would be a good bargain. So, yes with caveats.

Comments about 2-5/8" Forstner Bit :

Used this bit to drill through 3 1/2" southern yellow pine and 2" ash while making a workbench. The saw teeth cut a clean edge and bit stays centered. Best feature is a recessed gap which lets one place a square right on the bit shaft to square it up on a drill press. All forstner bits should have this feature! I don't know about longevity but appears as sharp as new and did not heat up much on slow speed. Great product for a large bit.

Comments about 2-5/8" Forstner Bit :

I use this bit to bore waste wood out of wooden bowl and cup blanks. It works great. I would really like for these tools to be made in the United States. I am not a big fan of Chinese manufacturing.
