Product Information:

Cocobolo (Dalbergia sp) can be seen in a kaleidoscope of different colors, ranging from yellow, orange, red, and shades of brown with streaks of black or purple. The color turns deep orange red with exposure. It is a hard and heavy wood with irregular grain with a medium fine texture. Like most rosewoods, it has natural oils that give it excellent resistance to decay. Cocobolo is used for fine furniture, musical instruments, turnings, and other small specialty objects, excellent turning properties. Larger blocks are sawn to +/- 1/4" of size listed, smaller blocks +/- 1/8". Spindle stock (1-1/2" - 2") dimensions are +/- 1/8". Grain runs with the longest dimension. Central America.

  • Due to the nature of wood movement, shrinkage and expansion are possible. Please measure each piece carefully before starting any project.

    Comments about Cocobolo 2" x 6" x 6" :

I have carved 7 or 8 cocobolo blocks like this into sculptures inspired by mathematics. The grain is beautiful, no cracks, and it polishes to a lovely finish. The dust smells good but should not be breathed while working, so ventilation and mask are essential.
