Acacia melanoxylon. Tasmanian Blackwood is also known as Australian Blackwood, Sally Wattle, Lightwood and Mudgerabah. Blackwood timber color ranges from a very pale honey color to a dark chocolate with steaks of red. It is very similar in its properties, color and figure to Hawaiian Koa. Very popular with luthiers, it is an excellent wood for turning, instruments and furniture. Native to Tasmania.
