Easy modifications make it better
Stainless Steel 16 Ounce Travel Mug Turning Kit
I have made 2 of these so far. Both of them, the lids "dribbled". To correct this I carefully removed the stainless steel ring from the plastic top. This reveals a hollow plastic inside, which I filled with FDA Silicone (type 1). This solved the dribble and is far more sanitary since the cavity cannot trap liquid and breed bacteria. The second mug I made, I drilled the center out to Ø 3" ID, then put some minimal expanding foam (small amount), and used silicon on the lip and clamped in vise for 24 hours. Rub the silicon off once cured and I have an insulated walnut coffee cup. Oh yea, I used CA for a finish, it is tricky to do because of the large surface area, but doable.

Made with Product
Have used others that were not of uniform sizing and thus required individual unit by unit sizing, these permitted dulication of dimensions and consistant fitting.
I would buy this mug again
I take coffee every day in this mug
Made two of these using walnut and maple solid pieces. Turned, sanded and ready for finish in a couple of hours. Made great Christmas gifts.
Better than earlier version
Grass Valley, CA
I use the travel mugs as gifts to members of the family with a caution on their use. The lids on first group of mugs that I bought did not fit tightly, and if filled and turned upside down, the lid came close to coming off. Woodcraft did exchange them for a set with a tighter fitting gasket. I will caution those who receive them to check the fit of the lids periodically as described above. A screw-on lid would make a better product. Also, in the enclosed instructions for building the wooden shell, I question the wisdom of running the 8 inch glue-up through the planer.
I loved it. PLEASE put it on sale...
I will buy more, but would totaly LOVE to to find them on sale SOON !!!!!!!

Walnut travel mug
The mugs will be used as gifts and a few will be sold at a craft show. Fun to make as no two are the same.
sizes are different
I ordered 16 liners. 6 then 10 pieces. I first made two coffee cups. No problem. Then I turned 8. This is when I found the liners I received were three different sizes. The largest were all marked with a "X" on the bottom.
Turned coffee travel mug a hit
So far I've turned and given away 7 coffee travel mugs using Butternut, Elm and Walnut burl. Always the same wow type reaction.
good turning project, need more variety of stock wood for this size of project.
