The Groz Pen Press Vise helps you with a variety of DIY applications. This compact, convenient vise has a unique design that allows it to be used as a Pen Press. The polypropylene jaws impart a soft yet firm grip. Under pressure these jaws deform around the work piece and, once pressure is released, return to their original shape.

Finally! A durable, powerful pen press
Ruler of the Kingdom of Plumba
Groz Pen Press Vise
I use this vice/press to assemble pens. I have used three different pen presses over the years, all lever types (Milescraft, Woodriver) and all have failed eventually due to metal fatigue. They just don't stand up to heavy use. This press is essentially a vice with plastic blocks to avoid damaging the pen parts. I have only used it for about a dozen pens, but it is easy to tell that this tool will probably last longer than me! There are no parts to wear or fatigue here. I suppose one could buy a traditional small vice and experiment with whatever type of blocks would protect the pen parts, but here it is all done for you and at a reasonable price compared to the lever type presses and to traditional vices. I wish it had been stocked at my local Woodcraft, to avoid shipping charges. Cons would be speed of use. The lever types are much faster. This press takes more time to unwind and press in, so if you are in a super hurry, stick with the flimsy lever type. The screw mechanism is wide and heavy, this is a good thing, however it is very well oiled and greased, so you may get oily hands. Keep a rag near by to wipe off your paws and pens.
