No Replacement Blades available
Seam Ripper Kit Gold
I like the weight and feel of this item. I called customer service to see if I could order a replacememt blade. Its labeled as Part A in the instructions. This is even threaded and would make replacing a blade easy. But no replacement blades are availible.

I like these kits. I had a problem too with the o-ring on the first one I made because I had glue leak into the tube. I now pack the tube with modeling clay to keep it clean. I wouldn't recommend sanding the inside of the tube. The rougher surface stops the o-rings from working smooth. Debur, chamfer and polishing the inside is ok to do. I find if you just wet the o-ring slightly they slide in nice. It would be nice if they put a couple of extra o-rings in the package. My wife is a quilter and uses it a lot.

Seam Ripper assembly fixes

The O-rings when installed on the blade holder make it to large to fit inside the brass tube.
I have found that by turning the blade holder on my lathe in a chuck fitted with pin jaws I can sand the grove and reduce the diameter enough that the O-rings will fit inside the brass tubes. It take a few attempts to get the fit right.
I also chamfer the brass tube slightly.
I've also noticed while test fitting the blade holder (with the O-rings installed) that twisting the blade holder while pushing it in the tube works the best. Often no further modification is required.

Received my order for 5 kits on 1/26/12 and upon inspection was impressed. I ordered these after reading too many negative reviews at other merchants sites and felt that the quality here would satisfy my needs. The kit is very well made, BUT the interior diameter of the brass tube is too small when the "O" rings are installed, and too large without them.
De-burr the tube as instructed and with a split mandrel that fits sloppily inside the tube, cut a piece of 220 grit sand paper to size, and enlarge the interior, then with length of 1/4" dowel chucked in your lathe charge it with emory compound and polish the interior until you achieve a good fit.
It may take several attempts - and it really slows down production.
Without opening the inside diameter the fit is so tight as to either ruin the "O" rings, or be way too hard for the recipient to use.
Short of a custom reamer, I have not found a better way to enlarge the tube. Hopefully one of you will and so advise.
I gave it a 4 star rating because it does have potential and would recommend it with the above understanding.
