This 12V Proxxon Jig Saw STS 12/E is great for cutting curves in wood as well as gourd carving.  Lightweight, but powerful, it's easy to handle and gives you precise control over the cutting action. Requires Micromot Power Supply NG 2/S (825024)or NG/E (822535), sold separately, or other power supply with 2.0A minimum capacity.
