Woodturning Project Kit for Shotgun Shell Keychain Gold
Everyone loves the shotgun shell key chain Its a first to have no one else has them and all my family and friends are in line wanting one
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
VERY FUN BUT CHALLENGING
The first one I made I found it to be challenging as a beginner and agree with other post in regards to squaring the ends. After a little research, I found a 1" pen mill from another supplier...name withheld out of respect for Woodcraft. In order to make this mill work, I drilled the center of a 1" dowel and then turned down so it fit snugly inside the pipe insert. Once that was complete, it's then the same process as you would do with a pen blank. Last piece of advice, make sure you use plenty of petroleum jelly on the threads and have fun turning.
Shotgun shell keychain gold
poor quality, does not look authentic at all.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Nice keychain, but not for the beginner. It may end up a little heavy for the pocket, but it will be a great novelty showpiece to keep the spare house key, hitch keys or gun cabinet keys. I agree that it is a little difficult to square the ends without a belt/disc sander. I used my drill press and an oversized forstner bit to take it down to where I could finish it with a sanding block. Works fine, but take your time and take it slow. Would be nice to have a little more detail on the top to make it look more like a shell. Over all, nice product!
Not Your Average Key Ring
Bob the Builder
I like this key chain kit a lot. The finished product was very unique and attractive. It's not an easy kit to build though, so I probably wouldn't recommend it for the beginner.
Read and follow the instructions carefully; especially the parts about applying a coat of petroleum jelly to the threads on one end of the tube and marking it for later reference. I marked the inside of the tube with a permanent marker to identify the end that had been coated.
You will definitely need a belt sander to square the blank. A pen mill will not work due to the large diameter of bushings, which are about 13/16" OD. A typical pen mill cutting head has a 3/4" OD, which is too small for the bushings.
The fit of the key ring attachment and the hole in the shell cap was very tight in my kit. I could not press it in with a pen press. I had to resort to other means to insert the attachment.
Overall, a good kit, but not for the beginner. I think my hunting buddies will all want one once they see mine.
Very Nice finnished product
Nice finnished product. Probably not for the beginer and instuctions could be a little more clear.
