Product Information:

Brooklyn Tool & Craft Shellac Flakes
Imported from India, BT&C Shellac Flakes are de-waxed, small, uniform flakes that dissolve easily in alcohol. This is standard shellac and great for most application from sealer to finish. Available in 1 lb, re-sealable bags.

Brooklyn Tool & Craft Tiger Shellac Flakes
Imported from Germany, BT&C Tiger Flakes are a cat of a different stripe…..we know, a bad pun, but appropriate. Tiger flakes are highly refined, de-waxed flakes of irregular size, looking more like shard of glass than simple flakes. You can read newsprint through the lighter colored flakes…maybe the garnet, too. This is the shellac for any application – French Polishing, sanding sealer, fine furniture finishing or finish restoration for antiques. This is simply the finest shellac we’ve seen. Available in 1 lb, re-sealable bags.

Brooklyn Tool & Craft Pure Anhydrous Alcohol
The finest, purest shellac solvent available. Quarts only.

FANTASTIC!!

Comments about Brooklyn Tool and Craft Shellac Flakes Tiger Amber 1 lb :

I used this to finish a guitar body. I dissolved my flakes in Behkol, and it was an easy process. Once dissolved, the application was incredibly easy. I used self-made cotton pads from t-shirt material filled with cotton balls, and a little elbow grease. After the dyes had been allowed to properly dry & set, I applied the shellac as both a sealer and topcoat. It dried quickly, but not too quickly - just right, like Mama Bear's porridge. I applied I number of coats over the course of a few days, assembled the guitar, and have been playing it for 9 months - including a tour overseas. The finish looks great - like a highly figured, Old World furniture finish instead of that nasty plastic look on guitars made & sold today. Don't let anyone tell you it's not enough of a finish, either. I've done four guitars like ths, and they're perfectly fine.

Comments about Brooklyn Tool and Craft Shellac Flakes Tiger Amber 1 lb :

Brush, rag (rubber) or spray on. Mask needed if spraying in enclosed space (use booth and ventilation as well). Fast drying. Sands well. Adds wonderful colour (antique look). No wax, so does not clog sanding paper or have subsequent finishing adherence problems.

Comments about Brooklyn Tool and Craft Shellac Flakes Tiger Amber 1 lb :

USED IT TO RESTORE FINISH ON AN INEXPENSIVE VIOLIN, WHICH TURNED OUT OKAY, BUT--. MAYBE IT WAS DUE TO MY LACK OF EXPERIENCE IN FRENCH POLISHING - PROBABLY NOT THE PRODUCT. WILL TRY AGAIN TO GET IT RIGHT.

Best Uses

Comments about Brooklyn Tool and Craft Shellac Flakes Tiger Amber 1 lb :

I use it with the BT&C alcohol. I use a lot of oily wood species and have used dewaxed shellac spray as a sealer before coating with varnish. This varnish is much more effective, dries extremely quickly, and is a breeze to make up and use. I divided a 1 lb. bag up into 4 oz. sections and sealed it up into vacuum sealed bags (used a food sealer) to help prolong shelf life - which also helps to break up the large flakes. Best to let it dissolve overnight, and remember to filter.

Comments about Brooklyn Tool and Craft Shellac Flakes Tiger Amber 1 lb :

I've used a lot of shellac flake, and this is premium. It seemed very fresh, dissolved in a matter of hours, and was absolutely pure - not a single speck of anything in the cheesecloth when strained. The color was beautiful, subtle and warm. I used BT&C's 200 proof anhydrous alcohol with it, and got good results. [...]Tiger Flake is pricey, but it does seem to be a very good quality product.
