Comments about Stanley SW No. 62 Low Angle Jack Plane :
This new sweetheart plane seems to be a fairly good attempt by Stanley to regain their former glory in the plane business. The sole of my plane is pretty flat, very slightly dished in the center. It shouldn't take much work to flatten it properly. The blade is substantial and was fairly sharp out of the box, being almost, but not quite, ready to use. Overall, I think this plane will be a nice addition to my stable of planes, but I don't think it is nicer than the Wood River bench planes that I have. It doesn't inspire me to acquire more of the new Sweetheart bench models like the Wood River #3 did. I'm a little concerned about the aluminum cap on this plane. I'd be much happier with a good steel or even a cast iron cap, especially considering the price of this plane.
Almost Perfect

This may sound a little nit picky, but when you spend this much for a plane you should be nit picky. Out of the box I see a sliver of light between my straight edge and the sole of the plane. It took about 5 minutes using 320 grit sandpaper to flatten the sole completely. I put a secondary bevel (<30 degrees) on the blade and was shooting end grain with very satisfying results. The mouth does not close as much as the LN bevel up jack, but that does not really matter as long as you put a 40-50 degree secondary bevel to plane the face of a board. I suggest buying an extra blade if you want to use this plane for both edge and face planning unless you really enjoy resharpening.
Iron too wide.

The quality is good overall, the A-2 steel for the iron holds a great edge. The plane iron was too wide and did not allow for enough side to side movement, the blade could not cut paralle to the base. This blade was replaced by Woodcraft and the plane now works well.
