Product Information:

Full-sized gun with a ¼" air inlet and large capacity for big jobs. Comes with a 1.4 mm nozzle and 600 cc plastic cup. 28.8 - 51 psi recommended air pressure, 4.2 - 7.1 cfm Average Air Consumption, 7.1" - 9.8" Pattern Width at about 6"-7" from surface.

If you own a compressor, there really isn't a cheaper or faster way to start spray finishing than this! This self-regulated, gravity-fed HVLP spray gun, works right off your compressor. Features a stainless steel needle and nozzle, as well as adjustments for air, fluid and pattern. So simple to operate, it is almost "plug" and "lay,” and it offers the advantage (because it is powered by an air compressor) of being powerful enough to spray a broad range of material.

Comments about WoodRiver Pro HVLP Spray Gun with 600cc Plastic Cup :

Spraying has brought a new facet to woodworking for me. Dye spraying gives a consistent shade to the entire surface, always difficult by hand. Shellac application without lap marks saves hours of retouching. I've even sprayed acrylic paint thinned 10% with water and using the 2mm nozzle. I recommend Jeff Jewitt's Spray Finishing Made Simple.

I have never sprayed finish, have allways brushed in the past. This thing is great, it worked right out of the box. I sprayed Deft Lacquer without diluting and it put a beautiful finish down on my project. Made me wonder why I have been brushing all these years. Great value!

Comments about WoodRiver Pro HVLP Spray Gun with 600cc Plastic Cup :

As the description says, I am an avid do-it-yourselfer, but one who really likes nice tools. I own a wonderful Sata RP gun which spays clears flawlessly. However, I was hesitant to even attempt water based paints through the 1.2mm tips. A larger tip and air cap is more than what I paid for both the standard and mini guns, along with the 2.0 kit. And, I must say the gun is very well made and sprays well once the paint has been properly thinned. The only comments that would be negative is that, even though completely blowing out the gun, the body appears to be rusting on the inside. I pulled out the small filter (nice touch) and the bottom was discolored and rust stained. I am aware that better quality, and much more expensive guns, have stainless or aluminum bodies, but apparently this one does not. I have decided to not replace the filter until the unit is completely dry, but a bit more chroming may have solved this issue. All in all this gun is worth the money despite the minor defect and I would buy it again.

I used this to spray cabinets in General's Milk paint. The finish was great (I used the advised 20% thin). My compressor however worked overtime for a long period. The tip was very tight to remove for cleaning but once it was out - very easy to clean. For a beginner , this is great.

Comments about WoodRiver Pro HVLP Spray Gun with 600cc Plastic Cup :

I sprayed with this gun several times with both water borne poly and oil based poly. Both times gave very nice, smooth results. You don't need a large sized compressor to run this unit. 6 Gal or 8 gal is sufficient. I had to wait several minutes on several occasions for the compressor to catch up when I was spraying a very large cabinet, but the spray gun worked well. Good value for the price. Cons: Doesn't work to well for small confined areas/boxes due to the size of the cup hindering access in small boxes/corners. Also this gun is an overkill for small jewelery boxes. I guess that's what the woodriver small detail gun is for, which will be my next purchase.

Comments about WoodRiver Pro HVLP Spray Gun with 600cc Plastic Cup :

I wanted to post a followup since I have used the gun a bunch more since my earlier review. I still believe it is a tremendous value for the money. It does a very good job atomizing waterbased clears. I just finished spraying some Hydrocote Restisthane with it and it came out very well. It doesn't do as great a job as a gun that cost more than 8 times as much, but it is pretty close which is impressive. Minor cons are that everything is tightened far too much at the factory, and it was very hard to get the air baffle ( which sits behind the air cap off) though it isn't something you do very often. The check valve is too tight on my guns ( I bought a second one because I thought it was such a great value ) and I have not been able to loosen the check valve on either - you access the valve from the front of the gun after you take off the air baffle, but the special wrench they give you just slips on the check valve on both guns. Again, it isn't a deal killer since the gun still works well, and no drips. The gun is pretty easy to clean, and if you want to step your toe in the water, this is a great way to start spray finishing if you already have a compressor. I have attached a photo showing the air caps from An Asturo Eco ( the black cap) an Astro ( which is an $80 gun) and the Woodriver, and you can see the holes near the center hole on the Woodriver are not as fine as the Asturo, but are finer than the Astro which is a sign of quality.

I have only used it for a few minutes, but I am very impressed. I sprayed some waterbased lacquer, and the test patterns on cardboard came out very well, nearly as good as a gun I paid over $300 for. The machining looks like pretty good work, and the adjustments seem to work okay. Well worth the price.
