Comments about Powermatic 2800 18" Variable Speed Drill Press :

Good machine and easy to assemble. Reeves/variable speed drive is nice. The machine's focus is for the wood shop in my opinion not heavy metal work. The work table extensions needed some tuning and the fasteners used to hold the extension table support tubes were trash - replaced them with bolts from the big box. Mine came with a bad belt on the Reeves drive that caused vibration but PM customer service (very good)remedied immediately with a new one in the mail. It is now smooth and accurate. The runout appears to be acceptable and the chuck is ok. Missing a masterswitch which turns the display off, it is on when machine is plugged in. I will remedy this by adding a switch but this is a design flaw, albeit a minor annoyance. Depth stop is ok, wish it had a quick release like the new Delta but prefer this machine overall because of the variable speed drive. All in all an ok machine for the wood side of my shop. I will be keeping an old Delta DP for my metal working.
