Product Information:

This package contains the plans and hardware to build a Highlander weather station, which includes clock, barometer, hygrometer and Galileo thermometer tube. All you need is the wood and finish to complete this beautiful piece. The instrument bezels are 2-3/4" and require a 2-3/8" diameter hole. The clock movement requires an "N" battery, not included.

    An easy-to-make wood project that could use both better instruments and instrument mounting parts. While the clock has pressure-fit metal tabs, the barometer and hygrometer use a wrap-around rubber band that makes it impossible to get the instruments flush with the wood. Barometer is fairly accurate and adjustable. Thermometer is entertaining and off several degrees. The hygrometer is a joke. Non-adjustable, and on the six kits I have purchased, not one was closer than 20 points to the true reading. Buy the kit, save the instructions, and go online for the instruments where you can find an adjustable hygrometer for the same price.

    I purchased eight kits and plan on today purchasing another 12. Everyone that sees them loves this product so we are giving them for Christmas gifts this year. A couple of things could be inproved. 1. The barometer is hard to read and set in inches. So I changed the inches into mb which is much more accurate in the setting. Secondly, it is too bad that the manufacturer of the barometer and the hydrometer didn't use the same method as the clock system which is using the spring method of holding it in place instead of the rubber bands. Other than that, we are very proud to give these weather stations as gifts.

    The unit works well. I did drill a small hole out the back side to allow air to the hygrometer. The rubber gasket is a really tight fit but it is needed. However, because of the tight fit, air cannot get to the back side of the sensor. Other than that, the project went together as planned. I used some quarter-sawn Bubinga wood and it was a gorgous project when completed. Made it for someone special.

    Very easy kit to build with easy to follow and accurate plans. Was beautiful! Built one for a Father's Day present, now everyone in the family wants one. I could never get the Hydrometer to work accurately, but everything else works great. Warning: The clock takes a special "N" battery which was hard to find. Did finally find at Radio Shack.
