Product Information:

You can monitor stock removal from above with the Work Sharp's "see-through" wheel while a large port provides access from underneath.

The Work Sharp 3000 wood tool sharpener let's you monitor stock removal from above with the "see-through" wheel while a large port provides access from underneath. This works exceptionally well for sharpening large turning tools quickly and efficiently while also providing a means to sharpen and hone carving tools, especially the smaller profiles that require a more delicate touch. This is an air cooled, dry sharpening system that uses maintenance free 150mm tempered glass wheels to which you adhere PSA abrasives. Slotted "see-through" wheel allows for fast and precise sharpening of carving and lathe tools. The precise and repeatable sharpening port enables sharpening of 20, 25, 30, and 35 degree angle chisels and plane irons up to 2" wide. No jigs are needed; just select angle and sharpen. Lapping abrasive in the sharpening port increases burr removal and speeds sharpening. The rigid bevel angle settings and skew cam provide precise positioning of the sharpening port. Bevel and skew geometry are not affected by wheel diameter, chisel size, or complex user setup. Forced air-cooling and the sharpening port heat sink allow for higher material removal rates without affecting the steel temper. It allows for quick reshaping of a new or damaged chisel, and fast honing of a micro bevel. The precise bevel angles are set in the sharpening port, not in a fixture or jig, so switching between angles is simple and fast. No re-calibration is required for changing wheel diameter or tool size. Coarse grind for rapid shaping and then micro-fine hone all in one port. The Work Sharp 3000 comes with a 2 year manufacturer's warranty and the following accessories: 2 tempered float glass wheels, a "see-through" slotted wheel, top tool rest, crepe stick, and PSA abrasive kit. It has a 110V, 1/5 hp motor, 580 rpm (gear reduced), and weighs 16 lbs.

Comments about Work Sharp 3000 :

Great product! didnt realize how far off from 90 the angles were on my chisel until i threw them on here! took maybe 20 minutes and had them all sharpened! puts a really nice edge in it, real sharp. Great customer service from woodcraft too! one of the little rubber feet werent on it when i got it, callerd them, i was on the phone for 2 minutes and 38 seconds with them, and got off and had an email saying they were sending it to me, free of charge, and i got it three days later. Cannot complain! Great service, great product.

Comments about Work Sharp 3000 :

Just got it. Busy and don't take the time to fool around with wet stones for my woodworking tools. This works for me. First time I've had really sharp chisels in years. Forgot what it's like. Sharpened six chisels and three plane irons in 20 minutes. I bought the guide table for it, I'm sure that's a plus. Don't know about getting more abrasives, etc. The angle is a little off in the guide chute, so I'll have to adjust that someday, when I get the time for it. Read the book before you waste abrasives.

Comments about Work Sharp 3000 :

I was a bit skeptical about purchasing this system, I have a bad experience with their Drill Doctor products and really thought long and hard about spending 200 on a system that might not only waste my $$$ but more importantly my time...... Boy do I regret not buying this sooner. I was tired of spending 7-9$ each on sharpening my bench chisels and only getting "utility sharp" and you know, I was about to buy the stones ,and start sharpening that way. I am glad to report that with very little practice, in about 2 hours, I sharpened about 50 chisels of all sizes to a perfection that I have never before experienced. Every professional woodworker must, and I mean MUST own this tool. It's quality is surpassed only by it's ease of use...... Sure I could have spent a lot less and perhaps gotten the same results (after what I'm told is a huge learning curve), but I am sure in the end I would have sprung for the WS3000 anyways. Dad always told me "The Cheap Person Always Pays Twice" Thanks! "Yankee" Mike

Comments about Work Sharp 3000 :

despite the cost of this tool... I had enough chisels that needed sharpening stacked up, so I got it. I haven't changed any of the abrasive discs, but am on about my 30th chisel. I will caution those who get this to keep the pads clean with the supplied rubber block (I have a bigger one I use on my belt sander). Keeping them clean will prolong the life of each pad. I love love love the ability to see the edge being sharpened. I was able to hone my gouges well... a friend's gouges as precisely as required. I can see where having a shaky hand would cause problems... the tool rest under is a bit cumbersome, and I usually just hold my chisels to the edge by hand with a moderate amount of pressure. I've also clamped this to a small piece of plywood that I clamp to my bench when I need to mount it solid. The only real major drawback to me is the amount of metal dust produced (kind of the point though). I put a rare earth magnet at the back to help cut down on that and keep it vacuumed up as well. It's really only an issue with the most aggressive pads. The performance of this tool negates all the cons I put in my review... I just want to provide an informed review. I absolutely love this thing! I would recommend this to a friend, but due to the cost, they just bring me all their chisels to sharpen!

Comments about Work Sharp 3000 :

This machine works great. I have never sharpened a chisel before, I always asked my brother to do it, and I was able to restore a beat up old chisel in minutes. The primary con I noticed is that the machine is lightweight - which is nice in most respects - but when sharpening, it moves around unless clamped or fastened. The accessories are a little pricey too, but I still have my eye on the wide blade attachment.

I've tried waterstones, sandpaper on glass, they all work OK, but the Work Sharp is quick and easy. I sharpened all of my chisels, a couple of plane blades and even a draw knife with excellent results.

This tool works wonders on putting a sharp edge on things. However if you are going to change the PRIMARY BEVEL angle on anything, it's gonna take a little while.
