I finish nail the pattern to the piece (after the piece has been cut nearly to shape on the band saw), mount the bit in my router table and duplicate the pattern on the piece. There's no chipping or burning of the part. The double bearing makes for an easier cut. The bit lasts quite a long time even when cutting oak and hard maple. Unfortunately, it's expensive to replace when it finally dulls. I don't attempt to sharpen it myself. I send it to a local sharpening service I trust. I use this bit to cut out parts from patterns.
