To be honest, we were skeptical when we first tried this lightweight, noise reducing headset. To our surprise, it out-performed units costing 3 times as much. The ZEM's patented design uses the mechanical energy of sound waves (not electronics) to minimize sound before it reaches the human ear. While conventional hearing protection like ear plugs and ear muffs attempt to block sound from entering the ear, the ZEM directs sound away from the ears. The noise reduction (rated at 26bd) will block harmful noise by reducing the noise level but allow speech and other useful sounds to be heard with no distortion of sound. Weighing less than 2 oz, these hearing protectors are comfortable enough for everyday use.
