Product Information:

Rikon's 6" x 48" belt, 10" disc sander operates both vertically, horizontally and at any angle in between.

Model 50-120 - Rikon's 6" x 48" belt, 10" disc sander operates both vertically, horizontally and any angle in between. Unlike most of the other sanders on the market, the 10" disc is positioned so it does not protrude above the belt. This allows you to sand larger stock without interference. Convenient quick release belt tension lever and single tracking knob allow for easy, accurate belt alignment. An accessory work support is included for working in the 90 degree vertical position. The large 8" x 14" cast iron table tilts to 45 degrees and includes a standard 3/8" x 3/4" T-slot. Other features include: 3/4 HP, 110V induction motor, 2-1/2" dust port and heavy duty miter gauge. At 104 lbs. the heavy duty cast iron base adds stability to this sander.

  • Belt size 6” x 48”
  • Belt tilts 0 – 90 degrees
  • 10” disc diameter
  • Table tilts 0-45 derees

      Comments about RIKON 6" x 48" Belt / 10" Disc Sander :

I was generally disappointed with the set up of the sander. I use the sander in making wooden toys and other general shop projects. (1) The disc table assembly would not go together as instructed (steps 7 & 8, page 7 in manual), - the table will not fit to within 1/4" of the disc contrary of instructions. (2)one of the split washers for retaining the table supports (31a, 32a) broke in my hands (I stlll have to find some of them in a hardware store, and NO I didn't force it) and (3) the table angle pointer will not align with the angle scale to show table angle. I switched to this sanded when my Craftsman sander (purchased in the early 1980's - I hated top give it up) gave up and (4) have been disappointd with the dust collection - the Craftsman was far more efficient and I now have dust in places I've never had it before (LOTS OF PLACES). The Craftsman machine was FAR simpler in design and oerpation as well.

I particularly like the offset belt and disk. The 45 degree table is OK but the mitre gauge needs work:too sloppy but easily fixed. Would I buy one again? Sure!

      Comments about RIKON 6" x 48" Belt / 10" Disc Sander :

I actually bought two of these, the second was offered as an upgrade for the 4" X 36" that was on backorder. Now that I've had them for a couple of months I have found they are pretty good units, although not perfect. Mine get heavy use (I make boxes and clocks) I use one for rough sanding and one for finishing. Belt change is a little slow on these units. Also the rubber stops used when in the horizontal position do not line up on either of my units and the rubber is already shot from vibration. They do have sufficient power and overall are pretty good for the money.

      Comments about RIKON 6" x 48" Belt / 10" Disc Sander :

Before I got the belt adjusted correctly, I had accidentally sanded one edge of the plastic shield that channels the dust to the vacuum. Removing the belt involves removing a couple of parts. It is easy once you figure it out yourself. The printed manual wasn't extremely helpful. I figured out what to loosen by looking at the manual on-line. The picture was much clearer. I'll try to remember to wear gloves next time I use this machine. With a 220-240 grit belt, it just takes a second to draw blood and many days for your finger/s to heal. UPS literally dropped the box by my front door. Taking the product to the basement workshop should have involved two people, since this sander is very heavy.

Keep saving for a better sander

      Comments about RIKON 6" x 48" Belt / 10" Disc Sander :

Thought I was buying a good tool for making templates and also small parts for toy trucks I make for my kids but this machine has under-performed. The disc sander works O.K. but the belt sander has a bad vibration. I called the Rikkon rep and was told to loosen the belt, but that did not help. I think the problem is that the teeth on the belt and the large gear are not exactly the same spacing so every third of a turn the gear picks up the belt until the tension pulls it back into the teeth creating a vibration. My porter cable belt sander clamped to a bench is much smoother and easier to use than this. Overall, keep on saving and get a better machine.

      • TABLE SEEMS FAIRLY TRUE

      Comments about RIKON 6" x 48" Belt / 10" Disc Sander :

BE PREPARED TO DOUBLE CHECK ALL ADJUSTMENTS. LINE UP ALL THE BELT COVER SCREWS ETC.; AS THEY WILL STRIP IF YOU ARE OUT OF ALIGNMENT VERY FAR. ALL IN ALL THIS SEEMS TO BE A FAIR SANDER, BUT I DO WISH I HAD INVESTED MORE, AND GONE FOR BETTER QUALITY. THIS ISN'T A TERRIBLE MACHINE, BUT ATTENTION TO DETAILS, AND QUALITY OF MATERIALS ARE NOT AMONG ITS STRONG POINTS.
