This is my first Japanese hand saw so I have no earlier experience with these tools. However, I am using it to make some toys for the grandchildren. It cuts smooth and quick with minor subsequent sanding. The saw has this "samurai" handle with some delicate bamboo wrapping and the teeth are small and sharp. Therefore it needs to be hung up like a sword to avoid damage.

I bought the saw, half-price, about two months ago. At that price I like it, not so sure if its worth full-price. I bought it to learn to cut fancy joints, by hand. On my first attempt on dovetails, it was easy following the lines. I was very surprised on how fast it cut. With such small teeth, I thought it would be slow. The final product came out fairly decent, being the first try. A book I have says to expect to have dovetails down pat, after about twelve joints. So far I am pleased with the saw. Would I buy it again? Only if its half price. There are many more out there, a lot lower in price and probably just as effective. woodchuck1954, "A Legend in His Own Mind"
