This kit contains 50, 4" x 9" samples, of beautiful veneers selected to give you a truly fabulous collection of the world’s most colorful and exciting woods from the four corners of the earth - India, Ceylon, South America, East Indies, Australia and the U.S.A. Each sample is labeled and identified by its common name and country of origin. With these samples you can enjoy, examine and learn to recognize the rich color, fascinating grain and distinctive texture of some of the veneers used on furniture. It can help you select your favorite wood for your next shop project and can be used in small craft work or for testing various finishes. Based on the availability of certain species, the kit content is constantly changing.

    Good selection of timbers. Should be in parts (i.e. part one had certain timbers and part two had different timbers) as opposed to just a random selection. As I would like to get the whole set of the veneers but don't want too many duplicates, especially on the timbers that I didn't like too much. The veneers are good for minor craft work and testing stains and finishing products. Because of the fact that they're only half a millimetre thick or so, you can't actually get a feel for rigidity and hardness of the timber. I have backed 90 mm by the width of the veneers onto pieces of 4 mm MDF just to give them a bit of strength.

    Got this for my husband who's interested in learning to identify wood. It's not a bad set at all, but aside from a generic list of woods that might be included in the kit (selection varies) there is no information included to aid in instruction. Since all the tiles are paper thin it's hard to even get a feel for how hard or soft the wood would normally be to help in selecting project materials. I guess it's good enough, but I was hoping for a little more.

    Great to identify different woods at a glance. I glued the veneers to 4" x 4" 1/4 plywood, put a magnet in the back and stick all 50 of them to one of my walls. Now I know the difference between English walnut and claro walnut...

    It is great for wood ID but it had only two wood species from South America. I understand that all species were not available at my time of purchase but I would love to complete the collection without having to purchase duplicate samples.
