Not long enough to taper table legs. Locking mechanism is designed poorly and does not stay locked. Does not come with any directions.

    Comments about Taper Jig :

I bought this to cut some trim for a 4:12 pitch roof. As supplied it won't do that angle. I added a fixed location hole above the existing one to get wider angle cuts. As I looked at the hardware I saw the issue with the inability by some to tighten it up properly. The square part of the carriage bolt protrudes above the metal frame. My solution was to use longer bolts and tighten them in place with an aerolock nut (nylock) to keep the bolt tight. I then added a washer, the supplied bracket, another washer, a lock washer and the wing nut. I actually bought a plastic knob with a metal threaded insert which presents a small problem of needing to make sure the knob doesn't hit the fence. The unit stayed locked in place while I cut the trim and it was fairly easy to set it up with the fence. For the price it is worth buying. As for accuracy, use the actual measurements and mark them on the piece you are cutting.

I bought the tapering jig to cut the side frames for a boat. It could also be used to cut tapered table legs.

I have clugged such devices in the past. This tool is easy to use, accurate and well worth the cost if you have to cut small angles.

Not good for accurate taper cuts. One of the two wing nuts will not stay tight which means that the angle of the taper can shift.Very disappointed[...]

    Comments about Taper Jig :

This jig is suitable for quick-and-dirty taper cuts. If you're looking for precision and repeatability, look elsewhere. The usefulness of this taper jig is limited by its fairly crude gauge and marginally adequate butterfly lock-nut mechanism for holding the jig at the desired taper-angle. The gauge is a little tag that you attach, just below the vertex, with screws during the quick assembly process. The taper can be expressed on the gauge in terms of degrees (1-15) or in terms of quarter-inch-per-foot. I'd have spent twice as much for a jig that offered greater precision. If your board needs to taper by, say, 3/8" over a length of 3 feet (i.e. about 10mm per meter) you're going to have to "eyeball" the setting, placing the guide to fall between the 1/4" tick marks. The gauge should at least have tick marks for 8ths. The manufacturer should offer a metric version, too, with a tick mark every millimeter. The gauge could be placed on the metal locking strap.

    Comments about Taper Jig :

I needed to add some wood to each side of this for my use, Cutting pen blanks on an angle. I also added a couple more holes to move the handle to a better position for a more secure hold. In my case, I found it best for building jigs to do the actual job.

    Comments about Taper Jig :

Jig is only good for simple cuts. Don't try to cut legs with this jig. It's not safe. Best bet is to make your own jig or purchase plans to make one. Woodshop has a very good plan for this type of jig.
