Product Information:

The Woodsmith Aluminum Box Joint Jig attaches to your miter gauge to make precision box or "finger" joints. Sure, you can make home-made box joint jigs for your table saw or router table, but after you use them for just a short time the inaccuracies of the jig really show through with inaccuracies in the joint itself, and with fixed jigs there is no adjustability. This jig gives you the accuracy and adjustability to make perfect fitting box joints every time you use the it. Micro adjustment feature allows you to move in increments of less than 1/64" for perfect fitting joints. "Chip out" is controlled by a replaceable plastic backing strip. Stock rests on a bed in front of the jig to ensure safe and true cutting of the individual fingers. Finger width is adjustable from 1/4" to 13/16" in thickness. Constructed of a solid heavily ribbed aluminum extrusion. The box joint jig provides unbelievable stability for repetitive cutting on both the table saw and on the router table. Jig measures 17" x 4-1/2". Includes detailed instructions and a free DVD. Made in USA

Aluminum Box Joint Jig does the Job

Comments about Woodsmith Aluminum Box Joint Jig :

I bought the jig because I needed to make a box joint for a cradle on a board that was 19" long. Router jig that size was expensive. It was O.K. but needed to go slow and take extra steps to keep the wood rest clean. If even a little dirty, the jig will be off and the joints will not line up. Overall it worked O.K. but will be buying the router jig in the future before I start a new project of that size.

Comments about Woodsmith Aluminum Box Joint Jig :

Wasn't sure about this as I had read some unfavorable reviews, but after talking to one of the salesmen at woodcraft, I bit the bullet and picked it up. I was kinda concerned that I wouldn't be able to use it as I don't have a dado blade on my saw so the box fingers can only be as wide as the blade. For me and the boxes I'm building, that is what I wanted. It worked slick for this. You just need the blade with between the blade and the first adjuster, and a blade with between it and the second adjuster. Took a few practice cuts to get the distance perfect, but when I did, every cut was the same. Worked like a dream. Gonna have to get a dado blade now, so I can use it for some bigger fingers. Love it.

Comments about Woodsmith Aluminum Box Joint Jig :

I have been trying to make a box in 1x12 stock. I finally got one corner done then working with the other end of the side, the spacer guide slipped without my noticing and the spacing between the slots (width of the pins) was not predictable, it was a variable so there was no way to make a mating side. The best use would to tie a rope to it and throw it overboard to use as an anchor.

Comments about Woodsmith Aluminum Box Joint Jig :

IT IS EASY TO INSTALL. I HAVE TRIED TO BUILD OVER 100 BOXES WITH THIS JIG. I USE A ROUTER TABLE WITH A PRECISION SLIDE. I FOUND THAT YOU NEED TO CLAMP DOWN EVERY PIECE AND CLAMP THE MATCHING SIDES FOR THE FIRST CUT. I END UP DISCARDING AT LEAST ONE SIDE FOR EVERY BOX. THE CUTS SEEM TO FLOAT AND DO NOT REMAIN CONSISTANT NO MATTER HOW CAREFULLY I CHECK THE ALIGNMENT ON EVERY CUT. PART OF THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO REST WITH THE CUT WIDTH ADJUSTMENT (MAYBE IT'S THAT "PRECISION SHEET METAL SCREW" THAT HOLDS IT TOGETHER. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT THEY PUT IT TOGETHER THAT WAY.

Comments about Woodsmith Aluminum Box Joint Jig :

This is a good jig design. Better than my homemade jig. It's very accurate and easy to adjust. I made a few sample boxes using the jig and found the joints nice and tight and this was with very little trial and error. I clamped the corners together after it dried I noticed the sides didn't come together very well. Next box I'll need to be more careful. I might add that I didn't clamp with the scrap pieces that the video instructed. So you guys follow the instructions I'll continue to learn the hard way. Also I might add the video was very thorough.
