Too flimsy to be effectively used

    Cons

    • Flimsy Construction
    • Not Effective

Comments about Precision Drill Guide :

The drill guide is too light weight and flimsy to hold steady when in use even on sturdy, smooth, flat surfaces. I first tried to use the press to drill pilot holes in the 2x4 construction of a frame for a work bench and gave up after the first few holes. I then tried using the press to drill pilot holes for screen clips and ended up free handing the work after again struggling with the press for the first few holes.

    About Me Casual Do-It-Yourselfer

    Pros

    • Easy angle adjustments
    • Lightweight

    Cons

    • Flimsy Construction
    • Vibrates and whobbles

    Best Uses

    • Staircase railing

Comments about Precision Drill Guide :

I wanted to used for drilling the holes for railing spindles. I used it in 3 different drills and in all 3 the chuck spindle would whobble as much as 1/4" off center. Needed to use it now so I did not have time to return it. Not accurate at all for drilling on center. The angle gage was usefull but that is about the only good thing on this item. I would not recommend to use it for precision drilling.

Comments about Precision Drill Guide :

Adjust angle first, then install drill bit, adjust drill depth, attach portable drill last, practice on scrap a few times then you will find satisfaction in use. Use a comfortable clamping scheme to hold to stock. It's great for out of shop use when accurate vetical and angle holes are desired, much better than eye ball or free hand with bubble level. Really good when project is too large to use a floor mounted drill press. Practice is the key to complete satisfaction.

Comments about Precision Drill Guide :

I bought a similar product a year ago that was sturdy and well made. This newer version is just OK. There is enough flex that angle settings are not guaranteed.

My work is both personal and professional. I'm an avid scroller and I make projects for my self, gifts and also I also sell scroll saw cuttings to help finance my hobby. The drill guide works better than a dedicated drill press.

    Flimsy waste of money

Comments about Precision Drill Guide :

I bought this thinking it would help getting perpendicular holes on jobs too big to take to the drill press. I can do better with my speed square and a steady hand. The plastic base is flimsy and there is so much play in the the mechanism, it wobbles in use. The scale does not have any definitive stops and when set to zero degrees for a perpendicular hole, it is no where close. My dad had a similar gizmo years ago that was solid and accurate. This would only give "drill press accuracy" if your drill press' bearings were shot and the quill was bent.
