About Me Avid Do-It-Yourselfer
I typically use #6, #8 and #10 screws for assembly of hardwood projects and these Fuller counterbore drills with the tapered bits have been my favorite for over 5 years now. I typically work with oak, maple and poplar. The plug cutters work well also and take care of the problem of mis-matched wood when using plugs. The nice wooden case keeps these all together in an easy-to-use manner and I wouldn't be without it. I really love the tapered bit (vs. a non-tapered bit) and it makes starting the hole in the exact spot you want it easy without any need for center-punching a starting hole. Also, the tapered bit keeps the hole small at the bottom so that you get a better match for tapered screws. Note that you might not want to use a tapered bit for MDF work if you are using full bore fasteners (MDF splits very easily). My only complaint has been that the counterbore cutter tends to get dull and it isn't easily resharpened (new ones cost about ten dollars each).
