After turning a bowl, I left the bowl on the lathe and carefully held the wax bar against the spinning wood. I could tell where the wax was on the wood as it turned dull looking. I then just applied a soft cloth and the wax quickly turned to a beautiful high gloss finish. Unsophisticated technique ... but really effective.
