Comments about Carter Products Delta 14" Micro Adjust Guide Conversion Kit, Carter# DEL14MA :

I just purchased these guides for a older saw refurb and I was very impressed with there performance. I have owned other Carter guides, that have always preformed flawlessly, but never the newer style adjusting ones like these so I wanted to give them a try. Let me start by saying I was very reluctant to buy this set based on the previous reviews, so I called Carter direct to see if they could explain the issues mentioned in the review. I spoke with a nice gentleman there who explained that some of the earlier kits did suffer from excessive bearing play, but that that issue had been fixed. He said it was a recent fix and that if I purchased the kit from Woodcraft it probably would need the retrofit fix kit as their stock was not probably the newer model. At any rate he explained that if I needed the kit it would be sent to me free of charge for the upgrade. With that explanation in mind I gave it a try and ordered the kit. When I recieved it, it was indeed was a little sloppy as others had said. Not too awful, but adjusting was less then accurate. I immediately called Carter to get the fix kit. After installing the kit, I can say this the guides when adjusted perform exactly the same as before, but the adjustment is a night and day difference. Now instead of slop the adjustments are precise and truly micro adjustable. All those who had the previous kit I would suggest you call Carter and get the fix kit as it does make a huge difference. Overall the system is a great guide system just like the other Carter guides I've used in the past. If I have one complaint it's that the thumb screws are a bit hard to tighten for those of us with bigger hands. I ended up twisting them with a pair of pliers to tighten. Other than that though, I would highly recommend this guide.

Comments about Carter Products Delta 14" Micro Adjust Guide Conversion Kit, Carter# DEL14MA :

Carter took the bad reviews of this part to heart and came up with fixes that they now incorporate in the guides. They even looked me up and sent a kit of parts to upgrade the guides. Although not real easy to install the fixes took all the slop out of the adjustment of the guides and they work the way they are supposed to. Their customer service is as good as the guides. This review replaces my first review.

One would be much better off getting cool blocks as these things are too hard to adjust. It is almost impossible to tighten the bearings without the adjustment changing. They definitely are not worth the price.

    Sloppy guides, Micro is relative.

    • Not "micro" adjustable

Comments about Carter Products Delta 14" Micro Adjust Guide Conversion Kit, Carter# DEL14MA :

These guides don't "micro" adjust. The thumb screw that moves the pinch bearrings has about a full turn before it engages the bearring. When the double stacked pinch bearrings are loose, they wobble back and forth about 1/4" overall. This makes is very difficult to dial in the guides. I found it very easy to have the guides to tight (singing bearrings, blade popping out) or to loose (use a sharp blade to combat drift, don't expect the guides to help). I believe the popping out of the blade is related to the slop in the bearring shaft. If they don't remain perfectly perpendicular to the guide body and parallel to each other, they create a V shaped groove for the blade that works like pinching an avocado pit off of a knife blade. I am currently using 1/4" low tension Timberwolf blades which may allow for the blade to pop out more easily, but I've haven't experienced this with any other guides I've used the blades with, whether bearring or block. These guides may be great for resawing as they provide 1/2" deep bearring surface, but I do not recommend them for cutting curves.
