I finished the pen and gave it a click test, about a dozen times repeatedly when the the top simply flew off the end! Would be willing to pay a bit more for quality built in USA.

Comments about Click Ballpoint Pen Kit - Gold :

I have made countless click pens and pencils, and have yet to have a single one with issues. I have seen other turners have issues with these pens, and in my experience, it is always (ALWAYS!) the spring installed backwards on the ink refill. If you install the spring the wrong way (it is tapered), it will bind up and won't click properly. All you have to do is reverse the spring! And sorry guys, this is nobody's fault but your own and has nothing to do with the quality of the kit. I do add a drop of Teflon dry film lube to the click mechanism (Dupont brand, but more to aid in reliability down the line than anything else. I also click each pen 20-30 times before I sell it just to break-in the click mech and smooth things out a bit more, and also to assure it works well. After at least 50 kits made and sold, and none coming back with issues, I think it's safe to say this is a good kit. And 95% of the time there is an issue, it's due to whoever assembled it, and not the kit itself.

Comments about Click Ballpoint Pen Kit - Gold :

I've made several of these now from Acrylic, Blackwood, Olive wood, etc, and they always make a great looking pen. For under ten bucks and a bit of your personality in the mix you have something that looks like it's worth at least three times the price (great unique gift idea here). I've never had a problem with the click mechanism but found out from a different (cheaper) click kit from another company that the length of the upper barrel seems to be somewhat critical for proper functioning. Maybe that could be what is causing the problem for some (BTW, I usually use a bit of very heavy silicon oil to lube my mechanism before installing it that it makes it very smooth and high quality feeling that way). The spring is really pretty heavy and it will never be a really light feeling push without maybe trying a different lighter spring from some other pen. Uses the regular Parker type refills, and if you want to impress someone those gel type Parker compatible refills write much, much smoother and impressively than a standard one (about 2 bucks apiece, nice if you're selling it or making a gift of it.) Those Fisher space pen refills, unique in their own right, come with an adapter that lets you use them in these pens if you want to make an absolutely reliable and never fails to write pen for someone that needs one. I love click pens, wish they had this kit in something other than gold, maybe chrome or Rhodium or something, it would be worth the extra price to me.

Comments about Click Ballpoint Pen Kit - Gold :

Bought the kit in 2010 and finally got around to building it. Barrel lengths are just long enough. You have little extra for trim. Maybe 0.100 inches is all you can trim the blanks down. Click mechanism not functional and was damaged in trying to remove it from the barrel. Until this product is improved beginner and intermediate pen makers should stay away from this product. Would prefer both barrels to be 0.100 inch longer for those of us who get a little to grind happy. That may be where I had some issues. One barrel was 1.9 inches long. The instructions say about 2 inches. Better to be on the long side by 0.05 inches or so.

Comments about Click Ballpoint Pen Kit - Gold :

I bought three of these kits and none of them worked at all. The parts go together pretty easily but the click mechanism is not smooth and would always get stuck. It's stiff and pretty much useless. It's a cheap kit and a waste of money. If you want a good click pen, I've had a lot better luck with the Wall Street IIs.
