Comments about Crown 187W Gent Back Saw 8" :

I am one of those woodworkers that takes a fancy to quality hand tools, and this saw is no exception. Having just recently started my journey into craftsmanship I wanted a nice backsaw that wouldn't break the bank, but also would give me the results and detailed accuracy one would expect in hand cut joinery. I was not disappointed, this saw is a little more "rough" than some of the $100+ dovetail saws out there, but I found that to be a great thing for a beginning woodworker who still needs to perfect their hand sawing technique; This saw is forgiving, easy to use and it was straight and well balanced right out of the box and cuts quickly and accurately (as long as you use it right). Bottom line, a great intermediate backsaw that will last you until you are experienced enough to notice the difference a $100+ dovetail saw can make.

Comments about Crown 187W Gent Back Saw 8" :

Have begun using this saw for dovetails and other joinery and am generally happy with it. I chose to clamp the teeth in the jaws of a metal vice to remove the teeth's set. Before I did this the saw would catch and skip in the cut alot, which was very frustrating, but it cuts decently quick and also a smaller kerf after removing the set. The blade is a little short for my taste, since I would prefer to take a long stroke, and if I get carried away I will push the saw too far forward and out of the kerf.

A great little backsaw. I use it for kerf cutting miter joints for picture frames - perfect joints every time. Only had it a month so don't know how long it'll keep sharp but I looks and feels a quality tool.

Comments about Crown 187W Gent Back Saw 8" :

Well, how much can you really say about a proven saw design that's been around for 400 years? The construction of this saw seems rock-solid, with many years of expected use awaiting it. Only concern: too much preservation oil had been applied, making the saw unusable out of the box until a thorough wipe down was performed.
