Product Information:

Roupala brasiliense also known as Leopardwood, Northern Silky Oak, Australian Silky Oak, Selena and Louro Faia. The wood itself is a reddish brown with darker brown “lace” patterning. Lacewood has the most pronounced figure and displays the largest flecks when perfectly quartersawn due to the large rays which run perpendicular to the growth rings. The grain is straight with coarse texture. Works well with hand and machine tools, but there is moderate blunting effect on cutters and a tendency to bind in saws. Glues well, stains and polishes, with care, to an excellent finish. Country of origin: South America

  • Reddish brown with darker brown “lace” patterning
  • Takes glues, stains, and with care finishes well
  • Use in any project where you would like an exotic wood appearance
  • Excellent for turning, carving and intarsia projects
  • Takes a lustrous finish

  • Due to the nature of wood movement, shrinkage and expansion are possible. Please measure each piece carefully before starting any project.

Wood is a product of nature, and as such, no two pieces are alike to start with, while the same wood growing in different locales can vary greatly even though it is the exact same species.

Thin Stock. The thin stock is cut to size from quality, kiln-dried stock. Dimensions are +/- 1/8" of size listed.

Carving and Turning Blocks. Blocks are sawn to +/- ¼" of size listed.

Plywood. Sizes are nominal. Dimensions are +/- 1/8" of size listed.

    Comments about Lacewood 1/2" x 3" x 24" :

I received 3 pieces and 1 of them look like a different type of wood it is so mismatched grain wise with one side not even being usable for a finished product.
