This was my first spokeshave and I have been very disappointed. Had it sharpened before shipping and honed it myself but could never adjust the blade to properly shave. It either bumps along with blade extended or doesn't shave ( just scrapes) with blade retracted. I've tried shaving at an angle, changed blade to angle, etc. without any success in getting this tool to work properly. I've used and honed drawing knives for years. I would not purchase this tool again. I have been making walking sticks for about 15 years and took 1st Place in this year's State Fair so not a newbie. This was my first spokeshave and I have been very disappointed. Had it sharpened before shipping and honed it myself but could never adjust the blade to properly shave. It either bumps along with blade extended or doesn't shave ( just scrapes) with blade retracted. I've tried shaving at an angle, changed blade to angle, etc. without any success in getting this tool to work properly. I've used and honed drawing knives for years. I would not purchase this tool again.
