Comments about DMT Dia-Sharp, 8" x 3" Bench Stone, Coarse :
Flattens water stones very fast. Very good at grinding bevels on chisels and plane irons. Mine has done an excellent job at these two tasks, I can find no fault with it.
quick wear

About Me Professional
I used this to lap the bottom of a Stanley #3 hand plane. It cut fast and seemed to be a nice plate. This was the first use and the corners wore out before I finished the job. Woodcraft replaced the plate with another and the new one seems better. Perhaps it's a hit or miss with this one. Be certain to use it right away and check for wear. When you first get it, it will feel sharp and abrasive. After use this abrasive feel is more subtle. This is normal and it will still cut effectively. Be sure to check other reviews and compare the type of uses you would perform with those of the reviewer. I often purchase old tools that require a good bit of honing/lapping/restoration. My stones and lapping plates get a lot of use. If you need only to take a few small nicks out of a chisel, this would be an excellent choice. I'm getting by with it, but it's not for serious everyday use. With the new plate I was able to go directly to my 8000 grit water stone to polish plane irons and chisels. It's very good for that. I tried to use the coarse plate to flatten an 8000 grit water stone. It didn't work well. I don't know if the extra coarse would be a better choice for this purpose, but I soon will be trying that, since flatting my water stones was a major reason for this purchase. Bottom line. This is a great choice if you want to keep a good edge on chisels that get hard use. I go on to a polished finish in my line of work, but depending on the job, you could go right from the coarse honing and put the tool to use.
