I gave this "pink" grinding wheel four of five stars as I haven't used it long enough yet. I recently got the Woodcraft 8" slow grinder, having used a 10" slow/wet for years, and shaping on my 6" HS grinder. I wanted a bit harder 120 grit wheel than the supplied white wheel. I use it for turning tools. I also use a 120 grit for my hollowing tools, and I want a soft one there. I put the "pink" wheel on one end of the grinder, and the supplied 120 white on the other. As of about a month of use I have no regrets. The "pink" gives me an edge, with light sharpening, that is almost as "mirror" clean as on my slow/wet, and I can go to the wheel more often as it only takes a moment to refresh the edge. I am getting cleaner cuts on my bowl turnings, as well as being able to take deeper cuts when roughing. One caveat, I do get a light build-up of metal on the wheel. I have to hit it with the diamond dresser often. But the converse is that I quickly remove the build-up, so it is unlikely that I'm grooving the wheel. I think that the hardness is about right for my purpose - which is some reshaping of gouges, and a lot of fine sharpening. I noted some reviews on [@], which carries this wheel, that rated it low due to excess vibration - blamed on the plastic arbor size fittings. A bit of care in balancing the wheel on the initial installation takes care of that.

I bought a new grinder and put this wheel on along with an 80 grit, it vibrated and shook so bad it took the filament out of two rough surface bulbs. I thought it was the lousy bushing system, so I turned a new bushing out of hard nylon that helped a little, still out of balance and woobled. I called Woodcraft tech he blamed it on the stamped washers on the grinder. So I took my new grinder back they replaced it with another new one, same problem, so I tried the freud blade stabilizers that are machined for a 5/8 shaft,[$]a pair and I still have the vibration with this wheel and the 80 grit is no better.

The white sharpening stones were not handling my A-11 gouges. The gouges were way too hard for the white stones and were wearing the stones and forming grooves in the stones. These pink stones (60 grit and 120 grit) are doing MUCH better and I am not having the problems that were occurring with the white stones. It did take a while to balance the two wheels by keeping one still and turning the other one about 1/8 turn at a time. While this takes time it is well worth it when you hit the "sweet spot" and the vibration is gone! [...]

i have a 5/8 arbor so i am using the reducer bushing with absolutely no problem at all. the wheel was perfectly balanced out of the box. their is no vibration during use and while stopping (about 3-5 minutes).

THE PLASTIC ARBOR REDUCING INSERTS ARE JUST NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD THE WHEEL STRAIGHT, THUS CAUSING IT TO WOBBLE. THE WHEEL JUST WILL NOT RUN TRUE NO MATTER WHAT i HAVE TRIED. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS PRODUCT.

The plastic arbor inserts are a joke. If you need to use an insert, you have wasted your money since the inserts make the wheel wobble and not turn true. It's like trying to ride a bike with a bent wheel or sharpen a lathe tool with an off-set or eccentric chuck. It just isn't going to happen smoothly. Quite disappointed.
