Deulen 6" Jointer/planer Knife Sharpening Jig
Using this with my flat granite surface and some wet/dry silicon carbide paper and water gives me a good edge, and keeps it straight. It also does it in less time than my wet/dry grinder with home made blade- holding jig. Now I won't put off sharpening my joiner and planer knives. This tool makes the task enjoyable and efficient.

Works great,simple to use.
Simple to use, works great.Worth the money will pay for its self.
I've looked at a lot of sharpening systems. Years ago, I finally bought a Delta sharpening center, and eventually wound up using it to test a sledgehammer. Reluctant to invest in another machine, I then began doing all of my sharpening by hand with self stick sandpaper and DMT sharpening stones, and a variety of jigs.
I bought this jig to try to salvage 6" jointer blades with some damage. It worked great.
I took out the initial damage with 120 grit self stick sandpaper applied to my jointer bed and then used the blades with increasingly fine diamond stones. I salvaged $100.00 worth of blades for half that. Because I already had the sharpening stones and self stick sandpaper, I only had to buy the jig. I expect the jig to easily pay for itself, say nothing of the time I avoid ordering replacement blades or running out to buy them.
The Deulen jig is simple, versatile, economical, and has no cord. Onboard storage of the Allen key would be nice, but otherwise it's a 5 out of 5.
Does what is is intended to do.
I bought this a few days ago in an attempt to avoid taking my jointer blades to a machine shop. I had two sets that were quite dull and a bit chipped up.
The device is simple, but quite well made. The blade rests in a brass slot and is held by three threaded hex screws. The blades are held firmly and don't slip, and the slots won't wear quickly.
The use of the device is very simple. Insert the blades and run them across your sharpening plate. It took a while for me to work off enough material from my blades to remove the notches, but I was actually able to do so. After that the polishing went quite quickly. The blades came off very sharp, and work just like new blades in my jointer.
--Note that since I had two sets of knives, I had an even number so the process was smooth. If you have an odd number of knives it will take a bit of extra time changing out one knife at a time as you work through the different sharpening grits.
Overall, this is a great tool, and will allow me to get a bit more use out of each set of knives before they need to be machined.
