Product Information:

Acacia melanoxylon. Tasmanian Blackwood is also known as Australian Blackwood, Sally Wattle, Lightwood and Mudgerabah. Blackwood timber color ranges from a very pale honey color to a dark chocolate with steaks of red. It is very similar in its properties, color and figure to Hawaiian Koa. Very popular with luthiers, it is an excellent wood for turning, instruments and furniture.

  • Less expensive alternative to Koa

  • Easily stained and produces a high quality finish

  • Actual size may vary +/- 1/4 inch

  • Native to Tasmania

  • Due to the nature of wood movement, shrinkage and expansion are possible. Please measure each piece carefully before starting any project.

Wood is a product of nature, and as such, no two pieces are alike to start with, while the same wood growing in different locales can vary greatly even though it is the exact same species.
