Great Axe for Roughing
Desert Wood Guy
I bought this axe to use for roughing out Swedish bowl blanks on the recommendations of a few woodworking forums. I wanted a very high quality axe and this does not disappoint. It is deadly sharp when delivered and the sheath is high quality. The notch that allows you to grip the axe near the head is great for fine control. I was a bit disappointed that the axe is a double bevel and not a single bevel axe, since I plan to use it to remove bark as well. None of the specs listed by Woodcraft cites it is double bevel. Most Gransfors Carving Axes are sold single bevel.
Gransfors Carving Axe
San Jose, CA
I love using this axe. Although the head is heavier than I would like. The handle fits my hand great & the tool is well made. This tool is made with the old fashioned quality that every tool used to be made with. Of course it is pricy, but well worth it. It will be around long after I am gone. It also comes with a heavy leather blade cover. A old friend recently gave a broad axe that had been in his family over 100 yrs. The Gransfors axe reminds me of this one.
