Brass Threaded Inserts, #8-32, 10 pack
These inserts took a little bit of a learning curve The first one wanted to track in crooked. So I cut off the T part of the handle and installed it in the drill press/ With the press off and unplugged I turned the pully by hand. I went well until I think it bottomed out. The threaded part broke off. I had a couple of 8-32 bolts on hand. Cut the head off an used couple of jam nuts up to the insert, Also added a couple washers in case it did break off it would be easier to remove. Learning curve straightened.

Just what I wanted.
I have several high chairs / backed barstools with upholstered seats, the bases of which are particle board. The seats were held on with standard wood screws, the tips of which barely held in the particle board, so the seats soon started falling off. Replacing the original screws with these beefy-threaded inserts and brass machine screws made these cheaply made chairs better than new.

These inserts will be used to fix a guitar neck/body joint.
Pretty Neat - For the Right Application
I bought some Leecraft Phenolic Sheet Stock (123033) to make my own dado and zero clearance inserts. I also bought these brass inserts and the insert wrench so I could put in leveling screws. I drilled holes 1/64 smaller than the insert, and while screwing in the second insert, the wrench sheared off. Tried screwing them in with a screwdriver and the insert sheared off. These are probably fine to use with relatively soft wood, but they're a disaster with that phenolic material and I imagine hard woods like maple and oak as well. I gave them a pretty high rating and would recommend them, you just need to make sure you use them in the right application.
