Kelton Standard Mcnaughton System
I would like an email on Sharpening for the Mcnaughten system, Please
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
not the easiest thing to use
I am waiting on the DVD before I make any further evaluations. I knowked a large billit of wood of an expanding 4 jaw chuck the first time I tried to use it. fIn the future I will certainly screw the billit to a face plate with no less than 8 screws.
I suppose they are trying to sell you an instructional video because the instructions have no illustrations which show the tool in action or how to set up the cut. I suspect i will figure it out eventually but why should i have to learn on my own. If i buy a tool i should get a decent set of instructions.
I can't rate the tool itself until i learn how to use it and i don't want to waste wood doing it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I notice the pictures Woodcraft is showing are of the older system, not the new M8 system. I bought the Standard M8 in October last year and love it. I subsequently purchased the small and mini blade sets as well. I feel that this system provides much more flexibility in determining what shape cores you want to take than any other coring system out there. You can core standard bowl shapes - deep to shallow - or vase shaped cores and just about anything in between. The blades are made to bend rather than break so if one should get bent, it is easy to reshape it. In fact Mike Hosaluk routinely sticks the blades between the ways of his lathe and bends them to his preferred shape for what he is doing! The new system also includes a small hollowing gate that fits in the turret. There is a bit of a learning curve as opposed to some of the less flexible systems out there but the set does come with about 14 pages of information and instructions. If that is not enough, Mike Mahoney has an excellent DVD out on using the system. (Look for the second edition) The key is not to try and force or guide the blade...just let the tool do it's work. With a little practice it will become second nature. I wouldn't trade my coring system for anything!
lots of hype, poor quality
Si Tu Me Dices Ven
Was the Mcnaughton better prevously? I found the small tool of the standard set had bulges I had to grind off.
It still had major sliding problems.
The tiny support between posts 2 and 3 fell off. Maybe it was superglued?
The instructions had no useful diagrams or fotos of actual in-use, nor of how to set up.
The "T" support, I assume is for micro tool support. It was not even mentioned in instructions.
For what is given to get it, not even a good set of instructions?
I think I was had and the manufacturer is laughing all the way to the bank.
I will stay with the invention, though, modifying it, til it's right.
Good Idea, poor engineering on the fit and finish end, and poor construction / materials.
MUCH EASIER TO USE THAN FIRST MODEL
I bought one of their first models many years ago but the holder was getting wore out and not safe to use. I even bent one of the blades when I had a catch. The sturdiness of the post and holder is greatly improved. I have more control and coring bowls goes easier and faster than before not to mention safer.
