I am a pyrography artist and this is hands down the BEST tool I've ever used for wood burning! Light weight and simple, with a variety of tips for different effects. Love it!
Just tried the system for the 1st time tonight on some cedar, and my oh my, that thing is AWESOME!!!
Even on half power, you can easily scribe words, carve, and do basically anything else you'd like to with a standard 6-A pen. I also have the 7-A and 10-A pens, and am seriously going to have fun trying those out as well. I cannot see any cons to this system, providing you purchase the individual complete pens and not the removable tip styles, as they are more delicate. Compared to the cheap old pen style burner I used on my last projects, which only hits 750 degrees, takes about 5 minutes to heat up, and at least 10 minutes to cool down safely, this is an absolute godsend, and a must own. Absolutely a time saver and worth every dollar I spent.
Im using it on gourds
I bought one.
The unit itself works great... I went with replacable tips and ordered several... They work fine, my main complaint is warping, after a short time the tip will fall out of the tool, then you have to let it cool, spread the attaching posts reattach and hope it did'nt trash your project. I've also had two tips literally melt and that was only on a medium heat setting.
