With these calipers you can read the fraction and the decimal equivalent at the same time so you know that 1/2" is exactly .5", not .51" or .49".

The Wixey dual display digital caliper is the only fractional caliper available that displays both the fraction and the decimal equivalent at the same time. With these calipers you can ensure accuracy by reading the fraction and the decimal equivalent at the same time so you know that 1/2" is exactly .5", not .51" or .49". This may not seem like much until you look at the gap around the edge banding you just inlaid into a one-of-a-kind table! Constructed of high-quality hardened and ground stainless steel components featuring a large easy-to-read display that reads in inches with fractions or millimeters. The fractions are displayed using “precise fraction technology” which gives extremely accurate fraction readouts. The decimal inches are displayed in .001" increments and the millimeters in .01mm increments.These calipers incorporate precision measuring features found in top-of-the-line measuring tools used in metal working. The precision ground measuring faces allow for outside, inside, depth and step measurements.

    I mainly use this to get an accurate thickness of lumber when planed and when I need joining boards to be equally thick. It is also good for getting accurate measurements between open spaces such as daddo slots. The on/off switch is level with the top of the top panel which makes it harder to turn on and off. However, that also makes it harder to accidentally turn on or off. I would prefer to have the button to protrude a little to make it easier to turn on/off. The tool appears to be accurate, and the fractional display is OK but over rated. The tool is also a little bulky compared to my old 6" caliper due to its larger size. This may be a good thing for those with larger hands. I am short and have small hands. Over all, this is a good tool and very easy to read. The auto off is also a very good feature to save the battery when you forget to turn it off as I often do. My major complaint is that it quit working after I droped a C-clamp on it. I wish it had legs so it could have gotten out of the way. Don't be this careless unless you love replacing perfectly good tools especially a nonreplaceable gift from your granddaughter)

    I like the fractional readings, but you only get them when the reading is exact, as advertised. What would be useful would be to see something like a fractional reading with a + sign to indicate when you're between fractions. E.g., 7/64+. Otherwise you've got to roll back and forth to see where you are or convert the decimal.
