PARKERSBURG, WV – School Receives Grant from Education Alliance

The successful partnership between Worthington Elementary School and Woodcraft Supply, LLC has earned the two organizations the West Virginia Parent Teacher Association’s Outstanding Business Partnership Award for 2006, officials with Woodcraft announced recently. Additionally, Worthington Elementary School has received a grant from the West Virginia Education Alliance for their Results Based Partnership Program with Woodcraft.

Representatives from Worthington Elementary School and Woodcraft received the Outstanding Business Partnership Award at the West Virginia Parent Teacher Association Banquet, held on April 22 in Morgantown.

Woodcraft’s relationship with Worthington Elementary School began in 1985 through the Partners In Education program, and has covered many projects over the years.

Darlene Colgrove, LLCorate Administrative Manager with Woodcraft, said, “We’ve had a terrific experience with Worthington Elementary. We’ve partnered to help tutor and read to students, hosted job-shadowing events, recognized the “outstanding student of the month” for each grade, and many other worthwhile projects.”

Worthington Elementary School also recently won a $1,000 grant from Columbia Gas on behalf of the West Virginia Education Alliances’ Results Based Partnership Program. The grant was written and submitted by Ruth Patrick, a fourth-grade teacher at Worthington Elementary School. The funds will be used to purchase the My First Project® initiative – a program designed to teach elementary school students how to construct a beginners woodworking project.
