Woodcraft Co-Sponsors First On-Line Woodworking ContestBack to Press Releases
PARKERSBURG, W. VA. – Working together to create their first-ever on-line woodworking contest, Woodcraft Supply LLC and have developed the Amateur Wall Cabinets™ Woodworking Contest. The contest launches on June 1, 2005 with an entry deadline of July 1, 2005.

“The on-line contest concept makes it easier than ever for non-professional woodworkers to submit their wall cabinet creations in a contest,” says Lori Mossor, marketing administration manager, Woodcraft Supply LLC “Entries do not have to be shipped anywhere, which should reduce potential damage to an artist’s work. By simply photographing the entry piece and submitting it to with a written description, a person can be entered in the contest.”

Judging for the contest will be based on design, craftsmanship and degree of difficulty. Judges will look for specific elements, such as originality of design, engineering of the wall cabinet, tight joints and fair curves, well-executed finishes and materials used in the piece. The wall cabinet category includes any style of handmade wood cabinet from medicine cabinets to knick-knack units. Entries must have been completed in the timeframe of July 1, 2004 to July 1, 2005, not previously entered in a woodworking competition and created by an amateur woodworker (a person who makes less than 25 percent of his/her income from woodworking).

More than $1,500 worth of Woodcraft gift certificates will be issued as prizes in the competition. The first place winner will receive a $750 certificate, second place winner receives a $500 certificate and the third place winner receives a $250 gift certificate. Additionally, up to 10 semi-finalists will be awarded $25 Woodcraft gift certificates. “The Santa Carving and Wildlife Contests that Woodcraft sponsors each year are wildly popular, leading woodworkers to request additional contests from us,” says Mossor. “We believe this new on-line entry format will allow even more woodworkers to join the fun of competition with their wall cabinet creations.

“Each entry will consist of up to five photos and descriptions of the piece that convey the overall appearance, constructions and features of the submitted entry. If there are hidden attributes or special features of the wall cabinet, the entrant will describe them in the written documents submitted with the photos. We think this entry format makes it especially easy for amateur woodworkers to submit their entries without ever having to leave their homes.”
