| Woodcraft Upcycling Event: Reclaim, Recolor, Refresh for a New LookBack to Press Releases
|CINCINNATI, OH (November 2013) — Woodcraft of Cincinnati invites homeowners and other DIY enthusiasts to an Upcycling Event on Saturday, Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.to see how easy it can be to transform cabinets, furniture and doors from damaged, aging or old-style to new, colorful and stylish. There is no charge for the event.
“It is easy to turn old or discarded cabinets, furniture, and doors into fresh new creations by ‘upcycling’ -- high-end recycling that reduces trash at landfills and often increases the value of the original piece,” Cincinnati Woodcraft Manager Pat Burton said. “It just takes the right products, such as the user-friendly General Finishes Gel Stains and Topcoats, which are a great place to start expressing your creativity. Let us help you discover the possibilities in upcycling, from cabinets and furniture to less traditional projects such as turning a chest of drawers into bookshelves, a dresser into a seat, or solid wood doors into tabletops and kitchen islands.”
Burton said the Upcycling Event will feature a demonstration of how to apply a General Finishes Gel Stain – the popular java color – to a cabinet door. In addition to the actual demo, sample panels on display will show the process steps. After the demo, the Woodcraft staff will share tips for successfully using the gel products that include 10 colors besides java and a satin topcoat.
Attendees will also see Woodcraft product manager Ben Bice’s refurbished, “like-new” entertainment center that will be on display, along with “before and after” photos. “Bice repaired holes and cuts in the original piece,” Burton said, “and then applied General Finishes Java Gel Stain to the exterior wood and General Finishes Dark Chocolate Milk Paint to the interior. He replaced the raised panels in the upper doors with textured glass panels and added new hardware to create an attractive, modern piece of furniture.”
