|Woodcraft Announces Florida Winner Of Gold Rush SweepstakesBack to Press Releases
|PARKERSBURG, W. VA. (October 2013) A desire to better equip his home-based woodworking business led Deltona, Florida, professional/hobbyist woodworker Joe Ness to enter the Gold Rush Sweepstakes – a move that paid off when he won the $15,000 grand prize of tools and training. Woodcraft, Powermatic and Woodcraft Magazine sponsored the sweepstakes.
Ness won eight Powermatic products to add to his workshop equipment: a PM1200 Air Cleaner, PM1300TX-CK Turbo Cone Dust Collector, 54A Jointer with Quick Set Knives, 14" Bandsaw, PM2800B Drill Press, 15" HH Planer, PM2000 10" Table Saw with 50" ACCU Fence, and 3520B Lathe. In addition, he will learn from a representative of Walter Meier (Powermatic’s parent company) the proper setup, maintenance and operation of the machines during a training session at the Woodcraft of Orlando store where he is a customer. The total prize package is worth $15,000.
“This will be a huge leg up for my business,” Ness said. With the help of his wife, Penny, and their family, Ness started Ness Customs Wood Work about four years ago. “We build anything from small toys and keepsake boxes to entertainment centers, cabinets, counters and display cases – even rough framing.” Work that has taken them outside the shop includes store interior projects in Universal Studios Orlando, in St. Augustine, and currently in Old Town Kissimmee.
“Our homemade ‘niche’ that we are promoting is our ‘Flippy Guy’ toys that we hand-cut, and Penny, a caricature artist, hand paints. These are old-fashioned toys that some people may remember, but we add our own flair to them,” Ness said. Making custom electric guitars with some very good friends is a new endeavor for the near future, and Ness said the Powermatic tools will move the company several steps closer to that goal.
A woodworker for 15 years, Ness said, “I got started by following in the footsteps of my dad, George Ness, helping him build a deck at our home and with other projects around the house.”
Second prize winners, who will each receive a $250 Woodcraft Gift Card and a two-year Woodcraft Magazine subscription, are Philip Hendrix of Acworth, Georgia; Kris Telford of West Valley City, Utah; and Dean Roadifer of Lebanon, Oregon. Fifty third place winners from throughout the United States each won a one-year subscription to Woodcraft Magazine. To see a list of all the winners, click on the Press Releases tab at woodcraft.com.
Contest winners were selected by random drawing on Oct. 10 from the 21,961 eligible entries received Aug. 1 through September 30.
