|Ohio Man Wins Woodcraft Trip To Watch Production Of Rough Cut – Woodworking With Tommy Mac Back to Press Releases
|PARKERSBURG, W. VA. (May 2011) – Tom Baker of Oregon, Ohio, will see firsthand how Tommy MacDonald, host of Rough Cut – Woodworking with Tommy Mac, builds fine furniture when he and his wife, Andrea, travel to Canton, Massachusetts, in July to spend a day on the WGBH Boston set watching filming for the show’s second season.
Baker’s name was drawn from the 6,478 entries in Woodcraft’s “Rough Cut Uncut – Win A Day With Tommy Mac” sweepstakes. Entries were accepted from mid-February through April 30. “I saw a poster hanging in my local Woodcraft store (Toledo, Ohio),” Baker said. “I thought it would be awesome to get a chance to meet Tommy Mac and see some of his work, as well as to have the opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes.”
Rough Cut, produced by WGBH Boston and sponsored by Woodcraft, has been nominated for a Daytime® Emmy Award for Directing and has won a Bronze Telly Award after only one season. The second season shows will begin airing in October on public television stations around the country.
“I was speechless when I first heard from Woodcraft that I had won the trip,” Baker said, adding that it didn’t really sink in until a few days later when Tommy MacDonald also called to congratulate him.
The U.S. Postal service mechanic is a first-generation woodworker who is still purchasing tools for his shop and developing his woodworking skills while working full time, spending time with his family, and serving as a volunteer firefighter/EMT. “Although building furniture is my ultimate goal, so far I have been working on smaller projects to gain skills and experience,” Baker said.
Baker said his wife shares his interest in woodworking and hopes to become more involved now that she has finished her nursing degree. “My wife has been very supportive of my hobby and lets me spend countless hours at Woodcraft, whether it’s scanning the shelves looking for the next addition to my shop or getting advice from the staff. I am happy to share this experience with her.”
Woodcraft will pay airfare and accommodations for two nights in Canton for the Bakers to spend a day with Tommy Mac on the Rough Cut set.
